Countdown to Halloween: 8 Costume Ideas For High School Seniors

If you're a high school senior, you may be spending your time outside of school working on your remaining college essays and applications rather than planning your Halloween costume. But when it’s time for the big night, we want you to be ready to enjoy the festivities, eat some candy, and take a well-deserved break (after you’ve submitted any early action applications with Nov. 1 deadlines!).

Here are some college-applicant related costume ideas to get your creative juices flowing:

“Well-rounded" applicant. Wear a shirt with circular images of different activities like sports, music, volunteering, etc. Attach or carry props like a guitar, tennis racket or lacrosse stick, and/or service award medals.

President of everything. Create a costume with name badge stickers on it identifying you as the president of the Chess Club, Math Club, D&D Club, Environmental Club, and as many others as you can think of. Print out a membership form to give to people so they can join one of your “clubs.”

Acceptance letter. Craft a large envelope costume out of cardboard with the word "Congratulations!" Make the envelope out to yourself from your top choice college for full effect.

Recruited pickleball athlete. Wear tennis attire and carry a pickleball racket and a gold trophy for extra flair.

Campus activist. Make protest signs about social causes and tape them to yourself. Hold a sign protesting everything.

Bevo, UT Longhorn mascot.  Wear a white hoodie and white sweat pants and add brown “spots” from brown duct tape or construction paper. Create horns out of cardboard or foam and attach them to a headband or, even better, a UT baseball cap. Spray paint the horns orange. Cut out oval ears from cardboard and glue them to the cap under each horn. Write BEVO across your nose in white face paint.

Reveille, Texas A&M canine mascot. Wear a maroon t-shirt or sweatshirt. Make ears out of felt or faux fur in a dog-like triangular shape. Attach them to a headband or hair clip to wear on your head. Make a wide collar from heavyweight cardboard covered in maroon fabric. Attach velcro at the ends to secure it around your neck. Decorate with mini Texas A&M logos. Bring along a squeaky toy football to complete the look.

And finally…..

Stressed-out senior. Use eyeliner to draw dark circles under your eyes, make sure your hair is disheveled, and carry a large cup of coffee or other caffeinated drink and a planner. You might not need to do any work for this one!
