Approximately three quarters of undergrads reside on campus, in one of 14 residence halls and three on-campus apartment buildings. A sense of community is fostered not only by small class sizes (average size is 14) and a 10:1 student-faculty ratio, but also the school's honor code--students feel comfortable leaving personal belongings strewn around the campus. With more than 100 clubs and organizations and an active Greek system (more than 50% participate), Rhodes itself offers students more than enough in the way of entertainment and activities. Students don't stay cloistered on the campus, however; connections to the greater Memphis community are encouraged and embraced. From St. Jude Hospital and the National Civil Rights Museum to FedEx and AutoZone, there is no shortage of internship or volunteer opportunities for Rhodes students. Named #1 service-oriented college, a full 80% of students participate in some form of community service before graduation.

Business Administration & Management, Biology/Biological Studies and Psychology are the most popular majors, but all students are required to take one of two 3-course humanities sequences, ensuring exposure to the breadth of liberal arts education. In addition, all students are required to take a critical thinking course (math or logic) as well as a lab science. Reading, writing and speaking well are traits expected from all Rhodes students, and discussion-based seminar classes help reinforce those skills. And because Rhodes only has undergraduate students, juniors and seniors generally work on advanced projects that rival graduate-level work at other institutions
