Lisa Bain Carlton, M. Ed.
FOUNDER
"Lisa’s leadership transcends traditional college consulting; she has been a foundational voice for students who learn differently and the families who support them. Her unique ability to bridge clinical insight with academic strategy has empowered a generation of neurodivergent students to find environments where they don't just survive, but thrive. As a mentor to fellow counselors, she has set the gold standard for how our profession approaches adolescent well-being with both rigor and deep-seated empathy."
A nationally recognized expert in college admissions and adolescent well-being, Lisa Bain Carlton, M.Ed. brings more than 25 years of experience to her work, with a specialized focus on students with learning differences and neurodiversity.
Lisa's work with teens began long before she entered college counseling. She directed the Suicide Prevention and Crisis Intervention program in San Mateo, CA, where she helped launch the first teen crisis text line in the United States, then developed a career development program in Dallas and served as a college advisor at Southern Methodist University. That clinical foundation has shaped every aspect of her practice.
In 2008, Lisa founded College MatchPoint as a solo practice dedicated to neurodivergent students. Alongside her husband and business partner, Bob, the practice grew into a nationally respected firm guiding students of all backgrounds to colleges that fit their academic, social, and financial needs. In 2024, they sold College MatchPoint to Guidewell Education, where Lisa continues in a founder role.
A sought-after voice in the profession, Lisa taught "Working with Students with Learning Differences" for UC Irvine's College Counseling Certificate Program and is a regular presenter at national conferences. She holds a Master's in Counseling and Student Services from the University of North Texas and a BBA from Texas A&M.
Within IECA, Lisa has served as Vice President for Membership and Vice President for Committees and previously led the Business Practices Committee. She has been a deeply engaged member of the LD/ND community and large practice group throughout her membership.
