Ara Nalbandian

SENIOR COLLEGE COACH

"Ara believed in our child from the very start, seeing their strengths even when they couldn’t. His calm presence and steady encouragement gave our family confidence through every step of the process. We’re deeply grateful for his insight, kindness, and the genuine care he showed along the way."  —Parent, Class of 2024

Ara brings more than twenty years of experience guiding students through every stage of their academic and personal journey. He helps each student discover their strengths, clarify their goals, and present their most authentic story through a process that feels calm, structured, and empowering. Drawing on his background in college admissions, high school counseling, and essay coaching, Ara understands what colleges value and how students can thrive once they arrive.

Known for his individualized and strengths-based approach, Ara works especially well with students who think creatively or learn differently. He meets each student where they are, helping them build confidence and take ownership of their college journey. His approach reflects the College MatchPoint philosophy—supporting students as whole people and helping them grow both in and beyond the admissions process.

Ara earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Southern California and an MFA in Professional Writing. Over the course of his career, he has built counseling programs, trained educators, and supported families with warmth and clarity. Whether he’s helping a student uncover an essay topic or identify colleges that align with their interests and values, Ara brings patience, insight, and a deep belief in every student’s potential.

Outside of his work with students, Ara enjoys cooking, especially perfecting his signature salsa recipes—a small reminder that great results come from creativity, care, and a willingness to keep refining.

"Mr. Ara was always kind and steady, offering clear guidance and real encouragement when I needed it most. He believed in me and helped me find confidence in my own voice. I’m so grateful for his support throughout my college journey." —Student, Class of 2024
