Computer Science Hidden Gems of the West

With so much interest in our last Computer Science program post, we thought we would bring you more! (In case you missed our CS programs of the Pacific NorthWest, check it out here!)   Today we have shifted our focus to CS programs of the West.  Each of these programs offers students different approaches to computer science teachings and specialties!  Check them out and if you want to know more, head to their websites and read about their full course listings!


University of Utah 


The University of Utah’s School of Computing offers a unique path with a 4+1 BS to Masters option.  As if that was not enough, their computer science degree offers an additional track that trains students in video game design.  With so many unique options, University of Utah stands out amongst some of the best!

The University of Arizona 


The UofA prides itself on focusing on the interaction of computers and the human brain. In addition, one has the freedom to choose if a BA or BS degree is best for them.  They also place an emphasis on pairing students with the right advisors so that the student can achieve their goals within the major AND graduate on time.

University of San Diego


With a 4+1 Masters in CyberSecurity Engineering and a BS in Computer Science, students get to design their program around their interests.  A capstone design project allows students to build a portfolio before graduation. A student can also study abroad, do research and participate in internships!

Loyola Marymount University


LMU prides itself on research opportunities like gene regulatory mapping, the intersection of artificial intelligence, cognitive psychology, and experimental design, along with experimental programming languages.  These kinds of opportunities allow students to find their passion within their major.

University of Denver 


Small, faculty taught classes are the cornerstone of a DU education.  Award-winning faculty are active in research that allows undergraduate students the chance to be published.  The curriculum includes modern software engineering, web technology in Linux and Microsoft servers and applications, Java, cyber security and computer game development,

University of Santa Clara


With several options for Computer Science and Computer Engineering, all students use their education to design a major project before graduation.  Hands-on lab work is extensive and students will find themselves in the Sustainable Energy Initiative or Frugal Innovation Lab. Students are encouraged to find internships and hands-on experiences.
