College Spotlight: Furman University

The first thing you notice when you arrive on Furman’s campus is how idyllic it is, like place you would want to vacation. With a beautiful 40-acre lake in the middle of campus, walking trails, a rose garden, and a golf course, it also looks like a setting for a pro-am golf tournament. Oh, wait, that’s because it is the setting for a pro-am golf tournament – the BMW Charity Pro-Am.

FURMAN ADVANTAGE

Launched in 2016, The Furman Advantage refers to the connection between four aspects of a student’s education: rigorous academics, real-world experience, reflection, and mentoring. Faculty members have been trained to advise students in these areas, using a tracking system to ensure students have taken advantage of an internship, research experience, and/or study abroad by the time they graduate. Partnerships with institutes and centers facilitate these experiences. For example, as the only liberal arts college that is a member of a health center, Furman works with Prisma Health to develop internships, observation programs, research activities, and community health initiatives that enrich students’ education.
