As college admissions season comes to a close, you may have received the news that you have been waitlisted or deferred from one or more of your college choices. While this can feel like a real letdown, there are still steps that you can take to increase your chances of acceptance. Here are three important things to consider if you find yourself on the college admissions waitlist:
1. Submit an update letter. Make sure to submit an updated college application that includes any new achievements since you initially applied, such as grades for the current semester or awards earned in extracurricular activities. You’ll want to make sure the college admissions board is aware of everything positive about your record, so illustrate what sets you apart from other applicants.
2.Consider applying to a few additional schools. It's never too late to apply to college! While it is important to stay on top of your deadlines, there are still plenty of opportunities to explore and potentially apply to more schools. In fact, many colleges still accept applications through the start of fall term.
3. Stay informed on decision deadlines. It’s important that you keep track of when colleges plan to release their decisions, especially if they have multiple rounds of acceptances or rejections. This can help ensure that you have enough time before making your own college decisions and signing commitments elsewhere.
Although being put on a college admissions waitlist can be discouraging, it’s important that you stay positive and take the necessary steps to ensure your college goals are still attainable.
