9 Hidden Gem Colleges Where Male Students Aren’t Outnumbered

Male enrollment at four-year colleges has been dropping for years now, especially at liberal arts colleges. As a result, there are some colleges where males have an edge in applying. While schools with technology and STEM-focused programs continue to attract more male students, most colleges now have student bodies with gender ratios that skew female.

For male students who wish to attend a college where they aren't vastly outnumbered by female classmates, we’re highlighting nine “hidden gem” colleges with gender parity or where males are in the majority.


University of Texas at Dallas (Richardson, Texas) - With over 31,000 students, UT Dallas is known for STEM majors like computer science, engineering, and biology. The gender ratio is 57% male to 43% female.


Drexel University (Philadelphia, Pennsylvania) - The 16,000+ students at this urban campus tend to major in business, engineering, nursing, and design. Gender enrollment is about equal between men and women. For those students who like hands-on learning, the co-op program may be of interest.


Santa Clara University (Santa Clara, California) - Nestled in Silicon Valley, SCU's 9000+ students study fields like engineering, business, and arts and sciences. Men make up 52% of the student population.


Colorado School of Mines (Golden, Colorado) - With engineering, math, and science degrees offered to 6,000+ students, Mines has a male-to-female ratio of 70% to 30%.


Rochester Institute of Technology (Rochester, New York) - RIT attracts over 18,000 students with renowned programs in engineering, computing, business, and more. Gender enrollment is 75% male, 25% female.


Stevens Institute of Technology (Hoboken, New Jersey) - As an engineering and tech school, Stevens draws over 7,500 students interested in fields like computer science, engineering, and business. 70% are male students.


Macalester College (St. Paul, Minnesota) - This liberal arts college accepts over 43% of applicants to build an intellectually engaged student body of over 2,100 students. Along with featuring a 50/50 split between male and female students, Macalester is known for popular majors in economics, political science, biology, and math.


Bentley University (Waltham, Massachusetts) - With a strong focus on business and STEM programs, this university of over 4,000 undergraduate students has a student body comprised of 61% male students. Popular majors include finance, accounting, computer information systems, and economics.


Bryant University (Smithfield, Rhode Island) - With a focus on business and liberal arts and sciences, Bryant’s student body is about 62% male students. Popular majors include finance, accounting, computer information systems, marketing, and management.
