Yvette was born and raised in San Antonio, TX. She earned her BA in English at UT Austin. After undergrad, she worked alongside author Sandra Cisneros as an organizer of the Macondo Writers' Workshop. Yvette then returned to UT Austin and obtained a PhD in literature. During her time in graduate school, she taught courses in writing and literature and worked as a consultant at the University Writing Center. She will return to UT this fall as a postdoctoral lecturer. Despite the grueling process of graduate school and writing a dissertation, Yvette still loves books. You'll generally find her curled up on the couch with a nice fat novel in her hands (or binging on some quality Netflix). She also spends her free time mentoring young Latinas who are interested in graduate school.

Yvette joined the College Matchpoint team in the summer of 2017. "I was born to teach. When I was a kid, I'd make my friends gather in a circle while I read to them. Nowadays, I'm more interested in letting students tell their own stories. I think of storytelling as a puzzle, and I live for those moments when students recognize the connections in their own journey."
