A Dallas-Fort Worth native, Joanna received her BA in Humanities from UT and her doctorate in English from the University of Pittsburgh. While at Pitt, she earned a graduate certificate in Composition, Rhetoric, and Pedagogy, taught first-year writing and literature courses, and served as a consultant in the writing center. After completing her degree, Joanna headed back to Austin and her original alma mater. She currently works in UT’s International Office coordinating college preparatory programs for students from the Middle East. Joanna enjoys trying out new Tex Mex, seeing live music, and hiking the Greenbelt with her dog, Birdie.

Joanna joined the College MatchPoint team in the summer of 2016. She has a wonderful gift for helping students who don’t like to write. "For me, the best part of teaching is that no two students are exactly alike. Working one-on-one, I get the chance to meet students where they are and help them discover what writing strategies work best for them. With a healthy dose of patience, enthusiasm, and guidance, even the most apprehensive students can produce amazing college essays--and become more confident writers in the process. It's a joy to see students surprise themselves with what they can achieve."
