After growing up on a 2,000 acre summer camp in the Texas Hill Country, Reid attended Baylor University as a University Scholars major with a focus on the humanities and creative writing. After college, he spent a difficult but rewarding year as a volunteer youth worker in Belfast, Northern Ireland, where he learned, among other things, that it is perfectly acceptable to serve french fries (more properly: "chips") with lasagna. After Northern Ireland, Reid moved back to Texas, where he is pursuing a PhD in 20th-Century English literature at UT Austin. He has taught classes at UT in rhetoric and literature, and worked as a consultant in the University Writing Center. He is also finishing a two-year term as a Graduate Research Associate at the Harry Ransom Center archives, which is almost definitely not haunted by the ghost of Arthur Conan Doyle. He is quite literally surrounded by books, bikes, and dachshunds most of the time.

Reid joined the College MatchPoint team in the summer of 2017. "I love working closely with students to tell good stories; not only to highlight their accomplishments, but also to help them discover where their own unique passions might fit into a world that really needs them. A friend once told me, with some exasperation, that I'm 'relentlessly interested'. I love working past the big lie that some of us have nothing important to say, wrangling those first tentative ideas into workable, interesting, and meaningful stories. College essays can seem like a chore, but there's no reason they can't be an opportunity to reflect, synthesize, and move forward with confidence in both your writing and your future."
