Designing Your Year Workshop for 9th and 10th Graders

The team at College MatchPoint is excited to offer a new workshop called Designing Your Year, for students entering the 9th and 10th grades. Our goal is to help students attending the workshop create a set of activities that they are excited about and that will ultimately help build out their college resumes.

We had the chance to attend an amazing training on Designing Your Life at SXSW EDU last spring. From this experience, we began to connect with educators around the country who were using this method with high school students. We are thrilled to bring this workshop to Austin for the first time and offer it to your students.

This workshop uses design thinking principles to empower students in 9th and 10th grades to create their own plan for the coming school year, with clear goals and action steps. In this 2-hour workshop, students will develop an activity & leadership plan, including extracurricular activities, service learning, internships, and coursework goals.

We are especially focused on ways for the students to become more engaged outside the classroom.  This workshop is perfect for students who need help developing a solid activity plan or for those who want to expand their activity plan to match up with a potential college major.

In addition to the student workshop, we will also offer a parent workshop at the same time. The parent workshop will include steps to take in the early high school years to get your student ready for college, as well as myths and facts related to college admissions. For parents who have already had a student go through the college process, the parent workshop will likely be redundant.
